They Say Good Things Comes In Three’s
How did I get so blessed?
I love when I am able to combine three of my favorite loves in life into one event. That’s what happens when you have a career as a wedding photographer, as I recently shot an engagement photo shoot here in Orange County. Those three favorite things? Photography, taking photos that are of good friends or family, and of course, Laguna Canyon. Thus the photoshoot for Madison and Joseph.
I shot their Laguna Beach engagement session during the first half of the Super Bowl. Hey, football is great, but my clients and friends are even greater. So for their engagement session we started in Laguna Canyon and then we stopped by the beach for some additional shots.
I’ve known Madison for a few years as we both went to Hope International University in Fullerton together. Joseph also went to Hope International University, but I didn’t know him as well, so it was nice to spend some time getting to really know him better. I’m really excited to be a part of their special day and to see Washington for the first time as they will be getting married in August in Lynden, Washington.
Three16 Photography loves their clients so much that we are always available to travel the world for that special wedding day. Besides, It’s nice to get a break from Orange County once in awhile. Hey what is all this stuff about the number three?
Again, how did I get so blessed?
Madison and Joseph’s Love Story
Madison’s Perspective….
Q: What do you do for work and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: I am training to become a manager for Penske. My favorite part about my job is the people I work with, marketing projects, sales experience and maintaining customer relations.
Q: How did you first meet Joseph? Describe to us your thoughts upon first meeting him…. Was he goofy, weird, prince charming, etc?
A: I met Joseph at Hope International University. I knew that he played on the volleyball team and thought he was cute. I was interested in the fact that he was from Hawaii. I thought he had a pleasant nature about him and was well respected in our community. He was very intriguing and someone I wanted to get to know.
Q: What was it about Joseph that made you start liking him?
A: When we finally had classes together our Sophomore year, he would walk me back to the dorms after class and we would have nice conversations. I felt like he was easy to talk to. He always treated me with such great respect and was so genuine that I was drawn to spending time with him.
Q: What’s the proposal story? How did it all unfold and were you surprised?
A: Joseph proposed on Christmas morning. We had flown home to Seattle for Christmas on a last minute trip. He had me open the last present of the day and that’s when he proposed. I had helped him pick out the ring so I wasn’t entirely surprised, but I thought it was too good to be true.
Q: As you plan your wedding, what has this experience been like? What’s your advice to others as they plan their wedding?
A: Planning our wedding has been such an exciting experience. We are focusing on enjoying the process and not allowing ourselves to get stressed out by the experience. I have felt supported by Joseph in the process and enjoy hearing his feedback and opinions about each detail. I have also been humbled by the love and support of our family and friends. My advice would be to plan diligently in order to avoid stressful situations.
Q: Where are you originally from and where’s Joseph from?
A: I am originally from a small farm town two hours north of Seattle, a town called Lynden, Washington. Joseph is from Kailua, Hawaii.
Q: If Joseph were an animal, what would he be and why?
A: He would be a Hawaiian Monk Seal. Haha you might need to Google it. He would be so happy to spend his days swimming in the oceans of Hawaii and laying on the beaches getting some sun.
Joseph’s Perspective….
Q: What do you do for work and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: I am a wheelchair technician. I work on and deliver different types of wheelchairs and various types of medical equipment. I enjoy helping people and meeting new people.
Q: Describe Madison in one word and why did you choose that word?
A: Heavenly. I believe she is the answer to my prayer. She’s perfect to me.
Q: Tell us about your first date, what did you do and were you nervous?
A: I picked her up and we went out for sushi. After dinner we went down to the beach and I laid down a blanket and played my ukulele for her. We just talked until it got too cold and then talked more after that on the way back to drop her off. I also made plans for a second date and that was the start. I was nervous and I had a lot of concerns, but after talking to her and getting to know her better I felt very comfortable around her.
Q: Was Madison surprised when you proposed and why did you choose to propose the way you did?
A: Yes she was surprised because she would have never thought that I would have proposed in front of her family. I chose to propose in front of her family because I really wanted to catch her off guard and surprise her, but I also felt like it was just the right timing because Madison’s uncle bought us last minute tickets to be with her family for Christmas.
Q: Looking towards the future, what do you most look forward to doing with Madison?
A: I would have to say raising a family. I know it will be very challenging, but I know it will have lots of rewards as well.
Q: What is something unique, quirky or special about Madison that you’d come to admire?
A: I would have to say her sense of humor. She’ll laugh at something that I don’t really think is that funny, but her laugh is so contagious that I always start laughing too.
