Finding your one true love can come in some of the most unexpected ways or sometimes in the form of a friend orchestrating the whole thing. In doing Orange County engagement photography sessions I love when I get to meet people like Matt and Abby. Often times I hear from our brides how the groom isn’t too excited about taking pictures but all I have to say to that is they simply haven’t worked with the right photographer. Recently we spent the afternoon photographing Matt & Abby’s engagement session and it was awesome seeing them both open up in front of the camera. We spent a late afternoon navigating around a private estate overlooking southern California which was a perfect backdrop for these two. Quickly our session went from being serious to laughter, smiles and a good discussion on how the Green Bay Packers are far superior to the Minnesota Vikings. Okay, okay Matt the Vikings are looking pretty good this year and sadly they did beat the Packers in week 2 but we’ll see what happens in December! Overall what I enjoyed most about this session was getting to know these two more, seeing their playful side come out and hearing a little about their story which I’ll share below. I hope you enjoy their engagement photos and I can’t wait to share their Padua Hills Theater wedding with you later this year!
Three16 Photography: How Did you first meet Matt?
Abby: So we were actually set up by my cousin she thought we would be a good match so she planned a birthday trip for herself and some friends to Vegas. Little did we know it was just her and her boyfriend and Matt and I who went. We had talked a bit before the trip about how it was his first time going to Vegas and how excited he was.
Luckily we hit it off right away and had a great time. Our first time meeting we actually spent 3 whole days together. Our first date was a blind date in Vegas and I think he was probably more nervous but we were both pretty nervous to meet.
Three16 Photography: What’s the proposal story?
Abby: Matt proposed about an hour before my 24th birthday. He wanted to wait until my actual birthday but he was so excited he couldn’t hold off for another hour. He had my ring for weeks before my birthday and he kept trying to get me to agree to receive my birthday gift early but I wanted to wait. He did it at our house in the kitchen and had me open a box that had a ring box inside. He took the ring box and got down on his knee. He started off by telling me he asked permission from my parents and began giving me a sweet speech but then I started crying which got him crying and he skipped ahead the the “will you marry me” part of the speech. I of course said yes and he tried to place the ring on my right hand because he was so nervous. It was sweet and perfect.
