Fullerton Community Center Wedding | Sherwin & Diana

As an Orange County Professional Photographer, I just adore the couples we meet, whether it’s to photograph their engagement session, their wedding, various stages of their family life or any combination of those, each one of them is truly great to work with. But perhaps our favorite part is to hear their stories. This is especially true for Diana and Sherwin. A truly wonderful couple that we had the pleasure of photographing at their Fullerton Community Center wedding here in Orange County.

Located in the city of Fullerton, the Fullerton Event Center takes into consideration flexibility and style. This beautiful venue offers a selection of outdoor spaces and rooms that can host your wedding and/or reception. We can see why Diana and Sherwin chose this location as it is one of the nicer community centers we have come across.

So, how did Diana and Sherwin get to this point? Well, they have one of the more unique stories we’ve ever heard, and we just loved getting the opportunity to capture their genuine love for each other and their wedding(s)! Yes, plural.

After first meeting at an Anime Expo, their friendship developed over the years and blossomed into a deep love and connection for each other! Because Diana lived in San Diego, for their first “unofficial” date, Sherwin drove down and Diana took him to her favorite spot in SD: Balboa Park. Because this was such a special place for the two of them, they actually ended up eloping at the Alcazar Garden at Balboa Park, where our team at Three16 Photography had the pleasure of photographing! Not only did we get to capture their intimate elopement in the garden, but a few months later we also had the opportunity to capture their wedding ceremony and reception at the Fullerton Community Center. Both were absolutely beautiful, and we love how the photos turned out!

Diana was an absolutely stunning bride in her intricate floral lace gown. With Sherwin in top form wearing a gray suit, they were picture perfect! One of our favorite details about this Fullerton Community Center wedding was the pops of color throughout the styling and decor. Not only were there bright blooming yellow flower arrangements, but the groom and his squad were sporting turquoise blue ties that matched with the turquoise linens, and other blue decor at the reception. All of the details of this wedding came together just perfectly thanks to the coordination of FAB Weddings by Ashley.

After the outdoor ceremony underneath the perfectly decorated altar, it was time to celebrate! And man, did they celebrate!

We would really like to thank Diana and Sherwin for allowing Three16 Photography to be part of your special day. We wish you many years of love and happiness.

Check out their love story. We hope you enjoy it, and their photos, as much as we do.

Diana and Sherwin’s Love Story

How did you both meet and who liked who first?

We met working at a convention called Anime Expo (AX). I (Sherwin) think I liked her first. Sherwin doesn’t remember the first time we met, as it was the last night of AX, so he was exhausted since he was the Operations Manager and overlooked a whole division. I was an “honorary” volunteer, so not an official staff member. My manager asked if I could still join the staff festivities planned on the last night since I worked during the convention as well, which Sherwin approved. His first memory of me is at a Volunteer BBQ that was held a month or two after AX. We both had crushes on each other over the years as we became closer friends.

Tell us about your first date. Who was more nervous and what did you guys do?

Our first “un-officially official” date was a stealth date. I (Sherwin) drove down to San Diego to meet with Diana. We watched the movie, “Les Miserables.” I think I was more nervous because she didn’t see it coming. I even got dressed up.

Our first real date was probably at Balboa Park in the Alcazar Garden. I imagine we both were nervous.

I thought about the possibility that this could be a date since we had been texting a lot more in the upcoming weeks. I wanted to show him my favorite place in San Diego, which is Balboa Park, where Alcazar Garden is located. After, we saw “Les Mis” and held hands during the entire movie. We discussed the possibility of dating at a Mexican restaurant nearby. I remember when he dropped me off back home where we had our first kiss. It was the first time I felt light-headed from a kiss.

What’s the proposal story? Give us all the details and tell us, who cried first?

We were up in the Bay Area to watch our favorite hockey team, the San Jose Sharks. That weekend we drove up to San Francisco and one of our favorite spots to visit is a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked around for a little bit and sat down. I waited for most of the crowds to go away and then I pulled out the wrapped box. I asked if she was tired of me yet. I responded by shrugging my shoulders and saying, “Eh,” which is an ongoing joke we have. I presented the box and asked her to marry me. Of course, I said, “Yes.” Diana is hard to break, so no tears running down the cheeks, but I know she wanted to. =o) He was disappointed I didn’t cry. 😛

As you approach the wedding day, what have you both enjoyed most about the wedding planning process?

I noticed Sherwin left this blank. LOL. I think we’re excited to continue planning our future together beyond the wedding. Another aspect I personally enjoyed was the food and cake tastings. We love food.

What has been the hardest part about planning your wedding?

Dealing with a budget? Yes.

Why did you choose your particular wedding and reception venue?
Fullerton Community Center is probably one of the very few indoor venues that could house all (in the middle of December since it would be colder) and was at a reasonable price. In addition, we liked that we could have our own caterer, alcohol, and decorations. Basically, allow us to have the wedding the way we wanted it. It was also close by to our family and friends.

Where did you draw some of your inspiration from for your wedding day?
From the movie, “Wedding Singer movie.”

Where are you going for the honeymoon and why did you choose that destination?
We are going to Japan for our honeymoon. We were there last year for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time. We are excited to go eat our way through Japan again! Hopefully, visit some different cities this time as well. Ditto!
