As Professional Photographers here in Southern California, we just adore the couples we meet, whether it’s to photograph their engagement session, their wedding, various stages of their family life or any combination of those, as each one of them are truly great to work with. But perhaps our favorite part is hearing their stories. How they met, how they became interested in each other, their first date and of course, the proposal. This is especially true for Lisa and Roger. A truly wonderful couple that we had the pleasure of photographing last year at their Galway Downs Wedding located in Temecula. Their anniversary was August 18th, so in honor of one year of marriage, we’re sharing their story today!
At Galway Downs they live by the motto, “Live, Life, Love” and that is evident when wedding ceremonies are held there. It is your special day and the folks at the Galway Downs want to be sure that you feel The Magic, The Beauty and The Love. This wedding venue is where wine and an equestrian center come together for an amazing day and beautiful backdrops for your ceremony and reception. What a beautiful location for Lisa and Roger’s amazing wedding day!
Lisa and Roger both absolutely love horses! So, when they came across Galway Downs Wedding venue, they booked it right away! The architecture and style of the venue was exactly what they were envisioning for their Rustic Southern California Galway Downs Wedding! The dreamy sunlit garden at Galway Downs was also the perfect setting for their wedding photos!
Dressed in a gorgeous lace Stella York gown, and with hair and makeup perfected, Lisa was ready to walk down the aisle! Roger awaited his bride alongside his groomsmen, in a stylish gray Tommy Hilfiger suit. We loved the combo of gray, dark purple and navy that the wedding party was rockin’. To complete their looks, the stunning floral arraignments included white, purple and the perfect touch of greenery!
After the outdoor ceremony on the lush green fields, it was time for the party to start! It was a truly magical night, and Three16 Photography captured the essence of the celebration for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Lisa and Roger’s Love Story
How did you both meet and who liked who first?
We both met through our mutual friend Crystal. Roger liked Lisa first.
Tell us about your first date. Who was more nervous and what did you guys do?
Our first date was eight years ago, and we really are not sure which date came first. One of our favorite first dates was at the iconic Ruby’s Diner at the end of the Oceanside pier. At Ruby’s they have a gumball machine and when you get a red gumball you get a free milkshake… it was our lucky day! We had a fun meal and got to see the dolphins go by. I’m not sure that I would say we were nervous; I think we were more excited to get to know each other better.
What’s the proposal story? Give us all the details and tell us, who cried first?
It was our 6-year anniversary and we hit the road up to Irvine, Ca to see Cavalia: Odeseyo together. We both LOVE boba drinks so we figured that would be a fun first stop to make on the road. We did the VIP experience, which serves dinner and desserts, and the whole time he was trying to keep the ring hidden from me, while also trying to figure out the perfect moment to pop the question. We made it all the way through the show and were headed back home when he took us back to one of the first places we went on date. We stopped at the Oceanside Harbor and went out on the jetty to take a picture together (A tradition we have done since our first anniversary).
While setting up for the picture we decided to try the time-elapse feature not knowing what it did. Thinking that it was counting down we smiled and waited and right as we thought it was going to take the picture Roger put the ring up on my shoulder as it finished its cycle. We have a hysterical few second video of the confusion on trying to figure out what he put on my shoulder. When I set the phone down and tried looking at my shoulder where he set it, he had already moved and got down on one knee. When I came full circle trying to track the strange object on my shoulder there he was with a big goofy grin! I teared up first from happiness and there was a lot of laughter and smiles!
As you approach the wedding day, what have you both enjoyed most about the wedding planning process?
Trying the cake! Haha. It’s been a lot of fun to make decisions together though.
What has been the hardest part about planning your wedding?
Getting people to RSVP in a timely manner… lol
Why did you choose your particular wedding and reception venue?
We absolutely love the architecture and the style of the Venue. Being horse people, it really went well with what we had envisioned together. The beauty of the garden was perfect and a place we could see ourselves getting married.
Where did you draw some of your inspiration from for your wedding day?
Not going to lie, Pinterest is amazing! We love rustic styles and really just let our creativity flow. We embraced our love of the oldies (and our sweet tooth) and wanted to do a fun connection of our past to our present.
Where are you going for the honeymoon and why did you choose that destination?
We are going to Sandals Ochi Rios, Jamaica! We are beyond thrilled as this will be our first time out of the country (Tijuana, Mexico doesn’t count!). We chose this destination for the fun adventures and the wide variety of food choices it has to offer. And really who can pass up white sand beaches and a butler?
