LA Professional Engagement Photographer

Although we are located in Orange County, we love when we get out and photograph in LA. All the different styles of wedding venues and engagement locations are terrific. So, when it came time to pick a location for our own engagement session, we decided to go towards Los Angeles. Since we already had our proposal photos taken down on the beach, we wanted to have our engagement photos to be something different. After perusing the Los Angeles Engagement Location page on our own website, we made a decision. Photos of Jerrick & Josie’s Los Angeles Arboretum Engagement in Arcadia by Three16 Photography will leave them everlasting memories for years to come.

We chose the Arboretum due to its variety of nature and the pure beauty of this location. Although we live closer to the Fullerton Arboretum at California State, Fullerton, we chose LA because it is much larger in size, almost like a small zoo of the plant world if you will. There are many background opportunities that add a lot of personality to the photos. In some of the areas they showcase foliage that includes the Fall colors that you would get back east, a Celebration Garden, a Rose Garden, the Grace Kellam Perennial Garden, the Meadowbrook Garden and our favorite, the Herb Garden. The aroma from the Herb Garden, especially the basil, is something special.

A couple other features that we truly love were the Queen Anne Cottage, which some of you will recognize the bell tower that was featured as the home on the television show, “Fantasy Island,” a small pond area, random trails, small grass areas and so many flowers and plants. There is also a desert oasis area, an amazing waterfall, known as the Meyberg Waterfall, and a pretty cool looking bridge and staircase near the waterfall. And to top it all off, they have random peacocks just running around the grounds. I can go on and on about this engagement location!!

At our photo session, our photographer, Katie, noted how she could really feel the love between us as not only were we lovable with each other, but it allowed ourselves to be… ourselves and goofy with one another. That is one of the great things about an engagement photo session. You can be comfortable with each other that will allow you to show others just who you are together thru photos for your family and friends to see.

What started out as a chance meeting while photographing a wedding to an unbelievable “get to know you” period, to an amazing first date, to the proposal and now marriage. This has been a ride for the ages.

Check out their love story. We hope you enjoy it, and their photos, as much as we do.

Josie and Jerrick’s Love Story

How & When did you first meet? Describe your thoughts and how you felt about each other, and tell us, was it love at first sight?

We met in August 2017 at a wedding at the Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach. I was the Maid of Honor and Jerrick was lead Photographer. When Jerrick saw me, he thought I was very beautiful and would love to get to know me. At the end of the night he went to give me his business card, but to his surprise, I already had one. This made him think I liked him and wanted to get to know him as well. Throughout the event, I watched Jerrick take photos and thought his job looked fun; in fact, I even helped him carry the wedding dress around to find a good photo spot. At the end of the night I took his business card to get more info to possibly assist with other weddings. After the wedding, while we were both at our homes, we became Facebook friends that night and talked for a few hours. Jerrick said to me that he would like to get to know me more and would like to have lunch together. I thought this would be a great opportunity for an interview to see if I would be a good fit to assist weddings with him.

Fast forward…….

We met for lunch at Maggiano’s in Costa Mesa, and we talked about ourselves. Jerrick shared his testimony, which made me cry. He continued to share his goals for the future and said, “who knows I may find my wife at a wedding… helping me with the wedding dress….” That was the moment I realized that Jerrick was talking about me and that I could be his wife! This was not an interview, but a date! I didn’t know what to say, so I did the awkward laugh. After this lunch, I said I wanted to be just friends, and I friended him about four times for about a month.

What do you both do for work?

As of right now, I love my job working with kids at an elementary school, but my desire would be a stay at home mom. Jerrick, of course, is the owner of Three16 Photography.

GROOM: What was it that first attracted you to your bride-to-be?

Her smile, her gentle kindness and seeing how sweet she was to Cheyenne on the wedding day. I could tell that she was someone that would easily put others before herself and that she loved the Lord. But her smile really caught my attention. It was hard not to admire her.

BRIDE: What was it that first attracted you to your groom-to-be?

I started to like Jerrick when I saw how genuine his heart is and how passionate he is to be the best dad, best husband and best friend he can be. I admire his boldness and perseverance he has on life.

Tell us about your first date. What was going through your mind? Where did you go and what did you do?

I was so excited for our first official date. I enjoyed getting all dressed up. Then he came to the door and handed me a beautiful bouquet of flowers before going to Mastro’s for dinner. After dinner, we went on a ferry ride. The we got out of the car and talked for a little bit. Jerrick loved going on the ferry as kid, as did I. Then we went across and rode the Ferris Wheel and kissed at the very top of the ride. From there, we went to the beach, took off our shoes and took over a lifeguard tower. That’s when Jerrick poured his heart out and said the sweetest things to me and he told me what he like about me. Then I shared how much I liked him. We were both excited and thrilled. So much so that we changed our Facebook status’ right then. One of my favorite moments is us holding each other near the ocean while under the stars. I was so happy we made the decision to be boyfriend and girlfriend.

What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together and what makes your relationship unique?

We both value relationships with friends and family. We are huge game lovers; we love being competitive and bringing games to double dates. We also love cultural foods and boba drinks.

Tell us about your proposal story! How and Where did it all unfold? Were you surprised and tell us, who cried first?

I woke up knowing I was going to get proposed to that day. BUT I didn’t know how, but it turned out to be much bigger surprise than I was expecting. I knew he was proposing because it was our second anniversary (September 15, 2017).

Here’s how it happened… I met up with Kiku and Melissa (they work with Jerrick) at a nail salon for Melissa’s Birthday. From there D’vorah and Debbie picked me up and took me to Maggiano’s, where we had our first lunch at to have breakfast. Then from there Anna took me to Lucky Strike (our first bowling alley date). I went into the bathroom and waiting there was my mom with make-up and three dresses to choose from. Afterwards, my mom took me to a special boba place (this is the location where Jerrick apologized for being too overwhelming – ha!). My dad was there, and we had a good time drinking boba and chatting for a bit.

After that, my dad took me on the ferry in Newport Beach (again, this is where Jerrick and I went to on their first date). At the end of the ride was my brother Robert. He took me on the Ferris Wheel (from our first date). By the way, it was also is where Robert and his wife Sarai went on their first date! After we got off the ride, I turned around and saw all my siblings walking my way! So, we walked to the pier and met up with my whole family and we got to talk about me getting married.

Finally, Robert was driving me to our next destination. We were early so he was stalling. I had no idea where we were going until we turned the corner and I saw the Hilton Waterfront (the venue where we first met) AND I started crying. I was so happy! From there I saw Brandi and she walked me up the stairs. As I was walking, I saw a table arrangement of flowers, photos and decor. Moses Linn was playing guitar in the background. I then turned around and I saw the love of my life walking towards me, he looked so handsome and his tie was matching my dress (which by the way was totally unplanned). He told me how excited he is to live life together and to start a family one day. He got down on one knee and said, “Josephine Annabelle Moreau, will you marry me?” By the way, Jerrick started crying right before I came out to the table.

We went to Mastro’s for dinner that night since it’s also where we went for dinner on our first official date. Afterwards, there was an after party at Tony’s house, with dessert, cake, a photobooth, friends and family. It was the perfect way to end a perfect day. To say yes to most incredible man for me.

What is one piece of advice you have for couples just beginning the wedding planning process? And what have you enjoyed most about planning your wedding?

Remember that you are both under stress, have patience with one another. Enjoy the process of planning your wedding, the process is longer than the wedding day and I really enjoyed our boba tasting.

One of the things that we lost during the pandemic is togetherness.
