Richard Nixon Library Wedding | John & Colleen

As Orange County Professional Photographers, we just love the couples we work with. Regardless if we’re photographing their engagement session, their wedding, various stages of their family life, or any combination of those, it has been an honor to get to know them. But perhaps our favorite part is hearing their stories. Not just about the wedding, but how they met, first dated, and of course, the proposal. This is without question how we feel about Colleen and John. An awesome couple that just celebrated their  Richard Nixon Library wedding here in the northern part of Orange County.

Located in the city of Yorba Linda, the Nixon Library was a great choice for their wedding and reception as it is just simply beautiful inside and out. There are plenty of great backdrops for your photos as this is home to one of the more beautiful gardens around, an expansive lawn setting, and an extended reflecting pool with large pepper trees. This venue also includes the house that President Nixon was born and raised in, the Army One Helicopter, and a replica of the East Room of the White House for your reception. John and Colleen made a beautiful choice when they went with the Nixon Library.

Colleen and John met at Virginia Tech University, and it’s been a romance ever since. Their school colors include Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange, so it’s not a surprise that the groomsmen wore maroon ties, to go along with their navy-blue suits and the bridesmaids wore maroon dresses as the main wedding color.

Getting to know Colleen and John, and then seeing them at the ceremony, you can really get a sense of their love and passion, as they were very loving and appreciative of one another.

Despite the hot temperatures, it was a beautiful day for this outdoor ceremony. The green of the lawn and trees stood out and having that long pool in the background really set the stage for the event. The programs served three different purposes as they were attached to flat sticks similar to tongue depressors. They had the information of the day, and because of the glare and heat, many of the guests used them to shield their eyes from the sun and also used them as hand fans. Great idea.

After the photos were completed, the couple, the wedding party, and the family commenced inside to join the rest of the guests for an awesome time of celebration as all of the details of this presidential library wedding were captured by the team at Three16 Photography. We would really like to thank Colleen and John for allowing Three16 Photography to be part of your special day. We wish you many years of love and happiness.

Check out their love story. We hope you enjoy it, and their photos, as much as we do.

Colleen and John’s Love Story

What three things do you admire most about your soon-to-be spouse and why?
John (about Colleen): Smart, Put Together & Loving
Colleen (about John): Unshakably Calm and Collected, Tall (can reach high things) & Funny

Describe each other in one word and why did you choose that word?
Colleen (about John): Handsome. Look at him.

John to Colleen: Mine because I put a ring on it

Any advice for other newly engaged couples as they begin to plan their wedding?
Start planning early!! Time flies by.

Describe your wedding for us. Is there a particular theme? What flowers did you choose and why? Any special traditions or items you have incorporated into the day?
No theme, but something elegant, timeless, and classy. We’re incorporating white flowers because they’re a blank canvas and pops of peach to pay tribute to where we met at Virginia Tech.

Looking back on planning your wedding, is there anything you would have done differently?
Maybe I’ll think of something down the line but right now nothing comes to mind.

What are the plans for the honeymoon?
New Zealand!
