Orange County Professional Photographer
As Orange County Professional Photographers, one of our favorite things is hearing the stories of how the couples we get to work with first met. We believe it’s important for us to learn more about every couple’s love story, and who they are as individuals in order to best capture their story through photos. This fun and in-love couple, Jess and Dennis, happened to have met through a dating app! They met for ramen, then continued that conversation at a boba shop. That discussion went so long that they got kicked out because the store needed to close for the evening! To say their first day was great would be an understatement. After more dates, and eventually falling in love, Dennis proposed on their one-year anniversary in an old-school photo booth, thus capturing the beautiful moment on photo! What a fun idea!
In regards to their wedding day, Jess’ elegant bridal gown had heads turning all day! Her look was completed with her hairstyle, which was done with an elegant half-up, half-down hairdo to show off more of her dress! Her lovely groom awaited his bride in a gray suit, while his matching groomsmen, with blush accents in their attire, paired with the contrasting elegant pink and coral tones in the bridesmaid’s dresses, stood by.
As Jess walked down the aisle of the gorgeous green outdoor ceremony space, surrounded by towering trees, all eyes were definitely on her! The altar was a simple white terrace but was boasting an oh-so-perfect floral arrangement. These two lovelies said, “I do”, and it was time to celebrate!
The ballroom at Turnip Rose was the perfect indoor reception space for these two to celebrate with all of their closest loved ones! The bridal party entered into some awesome music provided by DJ Will, who had guests on the dance floor all night! Not only was there some tasty cake for dessert, but Hula Girls Shave Ice handed out their tasty treats to guests as well! We love that Dennis and Jess incorporated a photo booth into their wedding day, especially since it was part of the proposal story!
The Turnip Rose Elite Catering Promenade & Gardens in Costa Mesa, California is a secluded wedding venue that features a spacious grand park and rose garden. With its slate flooring and floor-to-ceiling windows, it has a modern elegance mixed in with a Mediterranean ambiance that is perfect for your big day.
We would really like to thank Jess and Dennis for allowing Three16 Photography to be part of your special day. We wish you many years of love and happiness.
Check out their love story. We hope you enjoy it, and their photos, as much as we do.
Jess and Dennis’ Love Story
How did you both meet and who liked who first?
We met online using an app called “Coffee Meets Bagel”. We’re still not sure who liked who first on the app, but after three dates of meaningful conversations and fun experiences, Dennis liked Jess first.
Tell us about your first date. Who was more nervous and what did you guys do?
We were both semi-nervous on our first date since we didn’t know each other and only talked online. We met at a ramen shop in Fullerton, then spent several hours talking at a boba shop afterward. We talked until the shop closed. Then we had to talk more in the parking lot. This whole first date was Jess trying to get to know Dennis more and if he was worth giving a second date to.
What’s the proposal story? Give us all the details and tell us, who cried first?
Since we started wedding planning before the proposal, Dennis had to work extra hard to make the proposal a surprise to Jess. Dennis wanted to propose to Jess on their one-year anniversary date, but because this would be too obvious, he had Jess’ bridesmaid (Grace Lynn) text her to attend a fancy dinner the following day. Jess was obviously suspicious of this and thought that Dennis was going to propose the following day. On the day of their one-year anniversary, Dennis took Jess to eat some amazing avocado toast at a hipster brunch spot, and then they went to a picnic at Echo Park Lake, where he gave her a kindle for her anniversary present, which he hoped she thought the surprise was over and to throw her off the scent of the real surprise.
Then we went to a bar for pre-dinner drinks to which there was an old-school photobooth and he asked Jess if she wanted to take pictures. Of course, she said yes, and to capture the moment on photo, Dennis proposed to her in the photo booth. After they went next door for dinner, to Jess’ surprise, she saw four of her closest friends (who are in the bridal party) waiting for her to celebrate. Jess cried when she saw her friends as they had flown in from out of town.
As you approach the wedding day, what have you both enjoyed most about the wedding planning process?
Reflecting on how we met, how we fell in love, and thinking about our future together – the good and the bad.
What has been the hardest part about planning your wedding?
Accommodating family and friends, planning the details of the timing of the ceremony and reception programs, and seating arrangements.
Why did you choose your particular wedding and reception venue?
We chose Turnip Rose because we appreciated how everything came in a package with a reasonable price that was within our budget. We liked our coordinator, Barbi, who is very knowledgeable and efficient with explaining their venue program.
Where did you draw some of your inspiration from for your wedding day?
Mainly Pinterest and obsessions for succulents and wanting a naturey/laid-back type of rustic wedding.
Where are you going for the honeymoon and why did you choose that destination?
We still haven’t booked our honeymoon as we first have to go to Taiwan for a second reception. We are contemplating going to New Zealand for our honeymoon because we both have never been and love nature/adventure in an outdoor, mountainous setting.
